Emperor Belos' Castle Fandom

belos owl house

Luz was restored after meeting the Titan in the In-Between Realm and receiving his power, which allowed her, Eda and King to engage in a final battle with Belos and rip him out of the heart. Taking the form of his younger self in a final unsuccessful attempt to manipulate Luz, he was melted down by the Boiling Isles' rain, and Eda, King and Raine stamped away at his remains, killing him once and for all. Belos uses an instrument, such as his mechanical staff or other tools, to conduct magic instead of using simple spells like the spell circle. Despite this, Belos has mastered the craft and is regarded as the most powerful and talented witch that has ever lived due to his immense knowledge, strength, and proficiency with artificial magic. Luz's cloak, which is made of witch's wool and is said to be able to block all magic, doesn't seem to have any effect on this magic, which suggests artificial magic is distinct from the kind created by glyphs or witches. His proficiency with magic was so great that during his second battle with Luz, he claimed it would take decades of learning magic for someone to defeat him.

Flapjack

With help from the Collector, Philip assumed the new identity of Belos and became the Emperor of the Isles, lying to his subjects that he can speak to the Titan and thus knows how to cast magic properly, while hiding the fact his Coven System was created to kill them all with the Draining Spell. He is also the arch-nemesis of both Luz Noceda and his creation Hunter, and the former master of Lilith Clawthorne, Kikimora, the Coven Heads and numerous others. Infiltrating the Collector's Archives, Belos possessed Raine's body and attempted to move onto the Collector while the star child was asleep only to be caught in the act. Belos managed to convince him that Raine, who had been turned into a puppet like the majority of the Boiling Isles denizens, had been brought to life by the Collector's kindness. He then began manipulating the Collector into thinking that King was plotting to betray him.

Season One

Afterwards, he returned his attention to the Collector, who reminded that he taught him magic more powerful than anyone's, including the Draining Spell, which he stated is the very reason he couldn't risk the Collector sharing that knowledge with anyone else, and tossed the mirror into the abyss. When they exit the memory, Kid Belos, using various items gather from his memories, creates a trap for the monster, revealed to be an amalgamation of Palisman souls the Emperor had devoured. Kid Belos then transformed into Emperor himself and thanked the two teens for helping him catch the Palismen, whom he had longed resented for their nagging voices, and yet reveled in their powers. Philip is a common European name, stemming from the Greek name Φίλιππος (Philippos) meaning "friend of horses". It was popular among kings of Greece, France, and Spain, but was used more regularly in England during the Middle Ages.

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ cleverly brings Neil Gaiman’s comic book sleuths to life

When Kikimora arrives with who she believes to be Hunter, she asks to be his new right hand, to which Belos cruelly rejects her and tells her to find a spot to die. He then faces Luz, who masked herself as Hunter, as she tries to get him to stop the Draining Spell. He tries to convince her that he is looking out for her as a fellow human, but Luz does not believe him, even calling him out on his hypocrisy. When he starts to petrify her, she convinces him to let her be his guide in the modern human world so that people would believe him.

Castle Hallways

As a preacher, he wore a wooden version of his signature mask, and a robe similar to his present-day one, but with more black on the sleeves and bottom. Belos is an elderly human with a fair complexion, cornflower-blue eyes and long, rough-looking, ash-blond hair reaching past his shoulders. Most prominently though, he has a large, basil-green scar, running across his face and down his neck with holes that seem to be eroding it, an indication of how severely his unknown illness is affecting him. "Hollow Mind" implies that he sliced his own ears so they could resemble ears that belonged to a witch.

This deceptiveness was particularly apparent when Luz accused him of betraying her and Lilith, while Philip casually stated it was because they were easy to trick. Philip even falsified reports about himself as gentle and caring and being unable to save his companions (which was proven to be dubious after his betraying of Luz and Lilith), suggesting at this time in his life, he was or had come to the point where he instinctively exaggerated or lied about his character. Due to his ambitions, Philip was apathetic to the lives of others but his own, which was most notable when he remarked that his only hope toward Luz and Lilith was that they would last long enough to distract the beast for him. While possessing Raine Whispers, who was under the Collector's Puppet Spell, Belos' goo covers parts of Raine's cheek and left ear, while also inhabiting the hollow wooden insides. Raine's eyes also become blue and glowing, and their hair becomes much messier compared to their previous puppet form. While possessing Hunter, Belos' goo takes over most parts of his body, including both arms, half of his neck, part of his face, and part of his right ear, along with forming a pair of horns similar to his monster form.

Portal Dome

In "King's Tide", Belos has to endure an increasingly impatient Collector and put him off, insisting on waiting until after the Draining Spell. With his plans reaching fruition, Belos appeared before his audience and proclaimed that under the eclipse, they would wipe out wild magic. As he assembled the coven heads, he spontaneously positioned "Raine Whispers", actually Eda disguised as Raine, between Terra and Adrian Graye, ensuring her exposure. Basically, Belos seemed to regard King as completely insignificant to the point that he hardly took any notice of him and didn't even consider him in his plans at all. When the Collector finally revealed King's true nature in "Watching and Dreaming", Belos, while able to maintain his composure, was visibly surprised that "the dog" was not only immune to the Collector's power, but that he was also a Titan. However, Belos still showed no real interest in King as he was more focused on his new plan to take control of the Titan's heart.

Oncoming eclipse and the Day of Unity

Philip arrived at the Boiling Isles from the Human Realm during the Deadwardian Era, keeping a written record of his experiences on the Boiling Isles as he endeavored to find a way to return to the Human Realm. However, Philip began to harbor a hatred and resentment towards witches and magic because of his inability to adapt to the environment of the Demon Kingdom, which ended up in him wanting to do away with it. However, Lilith discover Belos never intended to cure her of her curse and have her petrified. Luz later returns to the castle to save Eda and encounter Belos who wanted the portal door, Luz gave it him, but later destroy it and escape the castle. The Nine Coven Heads later visit the castle and were then shown a false vision of the Day of Unity until Belos was pulled away due to his illness getting worse and Hunter went to go more Palisman.

Eda found him as a toddler on an island, being watched over by a strange amorphous creature that she managed to evade. King then sends Luz and her friends away to the Human Realm to protect them from the Collector's games.[16] As he spends time with the Collector as his chosen playmate, King comes to understand that he is misguided rather than malicious and discourages Eda and Lilith from attempting to reimprison him. Upon Luz's return, King and Eda reunite with her and aid her in befriending the Collector and destroying Belos once and for all. In the epilogue, King's developing Titan powers allow him to create a new glyph system, which he begins to teach Luz.

His motivation is that "I will do anything to protect humanity from evil", which characterizes him as being a villain who thinks they're in the right for committing genocide against witches. As the ruling body of the Boiling Isles, Belos initially appears to be a calm and collected man but is intolerant of failure as evidenced by Lilith's consistent failures at capturing the Owl Lady. He also threatens her with harsh punishment, reminding her about what happens to witches who were without a coven. Belos is a charismatic manipulator who ingratiates himself to the populace, presenting himself as a grandfatherly and wise leader who is deeply caring for his subjects, causing many to be swayed by his lies as he frequently touts messages of salvation and prosperity. This effectively allows him to manipulate and control the thoughts of his people as he pleases, encouraging absolute devotion to him without even considering why. As revealed during the C.A.T.s meeting, the Draining Spell would only target people with coven sigils, using the nine types of magic as ingredients focused through the coven heads, and Belos had taken extra precautions to ensure each coven heads as a replacement.

Though Luz rigged the portal to be destroyed, Belos managed to repair it and eventually acquired a vial of Titan's Blood to power the portal. Belos later purchased an entire army of Abomitons from the Blights to increase his forces for the Day of Unity. At the Coven Day Parade, Belos revealed his face to all the denizens of Bonesborough while having Terra Snapdragon relay a message to Luz that they would meet again soon and he was looking forward to it. Unaware of Belos's previous identity, Luz and Lilith travelled back in time to meet Philip as he found a means to meet the Collector, using them to acquire the relic before Lilith punched him in the face for nearly getting her and Luz killed. Belos' plans came to fruition as he revealed he never intended to free the Collector before Luz stopped him from returning to the human world by slapping him with a sigil in an attempt to force him to cancel the draining spell.
